John David Petersen born September 27 1949 in Utah. The oldest of 9 children. He left peacefully, surrounded by family on June 4th 2026. He started caving and rock climbing at the age of 7. He was active in his adult life with hiking, volleyball, racquetball, pickleball, and fly fishing. He was an alumni of Arizona State University and followed the football team throughout the years, attending the Rose bowl for the 1996/97 season. Definitely collecting a collection of shirts & jerseys. He will be missed as an active Free Mason and a member of the Eastern star. He was a technical scientist, software engineer, and cybersecurity tester for over 45 years at Motorola, Freescale, and General Dynamics, spreading his expertise throughout the valley.
He was a kind, patient, reserved, super intelligent, giving, and loving man with a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by many friends, nieces and nephews, and other family members who he genuinely shared his amazing presence with. He was a gentleman of few words, but when he spoke we went silent and we listened.
He is survived by the love of his life Winona Petersen (née Fox) his wife of 13538 days, his mother Mary Holbrook, children Scott David Petersen (Nonet), Lori Hammock (Josh), Brian Wade Petersen, Kiristi Kitt-Kat Beattie (Justin), and JohnDavid Zachary Petersen.
