

John A. Vitale, born, January 2, 1938 in Bloomfield, NJ to Joseph and Rose Vitale, passed away on August 12, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 75. He attended Grover Cleveland High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and love of his life Corinne Cromarty. After graduating high school in 1956, John continued his education at the University of Connecticut (BS) and graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1962 with a degree in Civil Engineering and worked for the Civil Engineering firm Edwards and Kelley for about 11 years. John also worked for the town of Wayne, New Jersey as town engineer then moved on as Montville Township Engineer for 12 years. He became County Engineer of Essex County for 12 years and worked for several years as an engineering consultant. For over 40 years, he worked as a civil engineer before retiring. John was awarded Engineer of the Year by North New Jersey branch of American Society of Civil Engineers in 1994 and was awarded the Government Engineer of the Year in 1995. He had a love for sports; played basketball and was a co-captain of a basketball team, he enjoyed golfing and playing softball. He also enjoyed traveling the U.S. and made one trip to Europe. John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Corinne Vitale, whom he married on June 10, 1962; his daughter and her husband Lisa and Jeff Wolfe; grandsons Shane and Bryce Wolfe; brother Nick (Maryann) Vitale; sisters Elaine Swendeman and Joanne (Martin) Smith, as well as many friends. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, August 22, 2013 at All Saints Catholic Church, 1534 North Recker Road in Mesa, AZ.
