Joseph (Joe) was born on July 1, 1946 at Mercy Hospital in Bay City, Michigan (the same day and hospital where his future wife and love of his life was also born).
Joe was a US Navy Veteran, Electricians Mate on the USS Bennington, who achieved the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was honored to be a “tin can Sailor”.
Joe’s experience in the Navy as a First Class electricians mate played a very important role in his life which carried through to his civilian life as a robotics engineer at Hughes Helicopter, Boeing Corporation and McDonnel Douglas. Joe also learned his work ethic through his father’s business as a plasterer, antenna installer, roofer, and basically a jack of all trades.
Joe was an avid reader, fisherman, car and motorcycle enthusiast, gardener, woodworker and a very gifted artist. Joe’s most important role in life was that of a husband, father and grandfather, oldest brother of six, an uncle of many and a friend. To meet Joe was to love Joe for he always had a smile on his face, a joke to share and love in his heart. He will be infinitely missed.
Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay Marie (Boucher), and his daughters Jennifer (Brett) McEwen and Jodi (Alex) Gutierrez, ten grandchildren: Lauren (Lucien) Mariano, Justin Thompson, Katie McEwen (fiancée), Jonathon Gutierrez, Taylor McEwen, Mikayla Gutierrez, Megan McEwen, Alessandra Guitierrez, and twins Corin and Luciana Gutierrez, great grandson Jason Michael Thompson and baby Mariano due January 2020, all of Mesa, AZ.
