Joseph J. Pizzicaroli passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born July 20, 1930 in Newton, NJ to his parents Camillo and Mary Pizzicaroli. He is survived by his two sons - Joe and John, and their spouses Tryna and Hope Anne, as well as his grandsons (John and Hope Anne’s children) John and Michael - and also by his loving companion of many years, Lorraine.
Dad spent a long career as a USAF fighter pilot, including flying in excess of 100 combat missions over Viet Nam as well as serving in the Korean War. My brother and I grew up on military bases all over the world, including living in Japan, Spain and Germany. Dad retired from the Air Force in 1974 as a Lieutenant Colonel to a new house he bought in Tempe, Arizona for his wife Barbara and his two sons to live in. Still a relatively young man, he went back to school to earn an associate technical degree and worked for a number of years as an engineering lead at a small semiconductor company before finally truly retiring.
Dad was a gentle, giving and loving man, not at all the typical brash personality one might expect of a flyboy. He loved his family and tinkering with various electromechanical gadgets, including flying radio control helicopters with his sons. But he enjoyed family time and related activities the most. Later in life he developed a real passion for Sudoku.
Above all, he was an extraordinarily good and decent man, and he will always remain in our hearts and memories.
Until we are one day reunited, Pop. With much love. We miss you so. ❤️
A reception gathering will be held on February 28 from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson Road, Mesa, AZ 85202.
