(the condition her girls have) or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
Kandice Ann was born October 20th, 1953, in Aledo, Illinois to Kenneth W. Liggett and Violet E. (Bigham) Liggett. She lived most of her life in Aledo, Illinois, before moving to Arizona in 2018. Kandi graduated from Aledo High School in 1971. She was a proud class of ’71 alumna who loved to attend reunions and parties, as well as help with planning. She always enjoyed seeing classmates.
On December 31st, 1976, she married Stanley Harrison, they later divorced.
In 1972 Kandi began working at The Times Record newspaper. In 1955, her father had begun an international antique gun magazine called The Gun Report Magazine, focused on firearms produced before 1898. In 1979 Kandi began her career there, primarily as editor and ultimately owner until her retirement in 2011. She felt one of her greatest accomplishments was the 50th Anniversary issue in 2005. She was especially proud of carrying on her dad’s legacy into its 56th year.
In 1976, she and her dad took a very memorable trip to England and Switzerland. She traveled throughout the United States for business for many years with a couple of her favorite places being Cody, Wyoming and Estes Park, Colorado.
In her earlier years Kandi enjoyed singing in church and school choirs. She loved music of most varieties and loved to dance. She loved to get together with her friends and family. She enjoyed playing cards whether in card club or on the computer. Kandi was also very crafty and loved to sew, do needle work, and cross stitch.
In her later years, she enjoyed watching the tv show “Friends”, games on her iPad, and tending to her plants. She enjoyed being outside watching the hummingbirds. Throughout her life Kandi enjoyed shopping, Seeing the beauty in nature, learning and current events, good food and tea- especially her green tea.
Over the years Kandi enjoyed collecting Wedgwood dishes and jewelry- especially jasperware, Christmas and Fall decorations, other jewelry, antique tins, and Dept. 56 Dickens village pieces.
She always tried to do what was right and expected the same in return. She wanted the world to be a better place. She had a wonderful sense of humor. She would point out anything that bothered her Libra sensibilities, such as a rogue hair on her shirt, a missed belt loop, or the right shade of color matching. It was her funniest quirk.
She considered her “biggest grown-up babies” to be the joys of her life. Her proudest moments in life were seeing Kenzie graduate from college and further her education and seeing some of Kortney’s writing being published in school publications. She was blessed to be able to travel with them both to visit family in various locations and make two highlight trips to Disney World.
Her girls, she said, were the best part of her life. She always made holidays special and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Family was most important to her.
She fought her cancer and infection so bravely and fiercely. There is comfort in knowing she is free of pain and suffering. She had great faith and believed in a loving God.
Kandi leaves behind the joys of her life, her daughters Kortney and Kenzie Harrison both of Arizona. Her brother Greg (Joanne) Liggett of California, half-sister Sherry (Eldin) Ehrlich, half-sister in law Charlotte Liggett of Nebraska, nieces and nephews, Alex (Will) Hunt of Tennessee, Kyle (Estela) Liggett of Connecticut, and Jenny (Clay) Adkison also of Tennessee, 8 great-nieces and 1 bonus great-niece, many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and half-brother Kenneth R. Liggett.
The family would like to thank Kandi’s caregiver Rosie, several additional caregivers and nurses tending to her at home for the past couple of years. In addition, the family would like to thank her medical team at Select Specialty Hospital for their dedicated care and compassion for our mom.
