Katharine Lillian Tolworthy

Katharine Lillian Tolworthy passed away December 14, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona. Born in Rossie, New York to Drury Earl and Zella Mildred (nee Perry), Katharine arrived on October 18, 1929. She met the love of her life, Thomas W. Tolworthy, and they were wed on September 3, 1949 in Staten Island, New York. Together they spent near 60 wonderful years loving each other. They were always together, and together they were very active in the Methodist church. Katharine was a devoted wife, and soon became a loving mother. 4 children blessed their home, and she spent her time showing them how much she loved them. Being family oriented, she let her adoration for her family shine. She was always there when her husband or children needed her. Being a huge Red Sox fan, along with Tom, they enjoyed going to spring training games. She loved being a grandma, and appreciated the time she got to spend with her grandchildren. Cooking and baking were some of Katharine’s favorite activities. She excelled at dishes such as, beef wellington and fish stew. The flaming desserts would have her family speechless, especially her cherries jubilee. Her specialty for breakfast was her waffles. Katharine would often send cookies, brownies, and fudge to her family and friends. Spending time with her friends and entertaining, in particular during the holidays. Playing bridge, other games, and jigsaw puzzles brought a smile to Katharine’s face. She loved being surrounded by her friends. Visiting her daughter’s cabin in Pine brought her joy. She loved birds, especially roosters. Roosters donned her kitchen, she would look forward to finding her next rooster trinket. Katharine’s gregarious spirit will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children Thomas A. (Louise) Tolworthy, Janet (Cliff) Orton, Kathie (Edward) Donovan, and Leslie Sobon, grandchildren Scott Thomas Donovan, Kimberly Hohman, Michael Donovan, Sandi Jensen, and Thomas W. Tolworthy, and great grandchildren Justin Donovan, Alec Donovan, Alexandria Hohman, Jacob Hohman, John Hohman, Layla Jenson, Rhianna Jensen, Thomas Tolworthy, Caleb Tolworthy, and Hailey Tolworthy. Katharine is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. A memorial service honoring Katharine will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care 6747 East Broadway Road Mesa, Arizona 85206 (480)830-4422.
