His parents Gladys (Richardson) and Albert (Sy) Franklin preceded him in death.
Larry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen, his children Larry Jr., Scott and Pamela, his two grandchildren, and his only sister, Mary Heyer, who remembers him as a loving, playful and sometime ornery husband, a devoted father, a playful grandfather and beloved brother.
Larry had retired from The City of Scottsdale as Purchasing Manager a few years ago after spending over 30 years there.
Larry loved telling family stories. One of his favorites was when they were going to visit his parents, which we did practically every Sunday. We were on our way there when Larry and his father passed one another driving in opposite directions around a curve in the road. So, Larry pulled over on one end of the curve to wait for his dad to make the u-turn and meet up. Well Larry’s dad had the same thought. He had pulled over on the other end of the curve in the road to wait for Larry to make the u-turn and follow him. They waited a few minutes and then both decided to make the u-turn at the same time and passed each other again. This happened three times before the both pulled over and swore that they weren’t moving until the other one showed up. My grandmother, mother and us kids were laughing our heads off as they both sat waiting for each other to show up. After awhile we all wound up at the grandparents house and spent the whole afternoon laughing about it.
An avid Steeler football fan, hence the request to come dressed in your game shirts, Larry was also a very generous person, a great friend to many people and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to his family. He will always and forever be missed. Memorial Service Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, 10:00 AM at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel 6747 E. Broadway Rd. Mesa, AZ.
