Lawrence Toshio Nakamura, 56, passed away on January 20, 2014. Lawrence “Larry” was born on December 31, 1957 in Honolulu, Hawaii to the proud parents of Thomas and Tokiko Nakamura. Larry graduated from Kahuku High School in 1975, during his high school career he participated in Volleyball, Wrestling, and played the trumpet in the high school marching band. Larry then used his passion for Volleyball to coach private leagues. After high school, Larry joined the Navy and began his exploration around the world. On May 21, 1983 Larry married the love of his life, Carol Lee in Honolulu, Hawaii. Together they welcomed two beautiful children into their family, Lorin Lee Tim and Brittney Lee Wailin Nakamura.
Starting out with McDonald Douglas, Larry began working on maintenance trainers for apache helicopters. McDonald Douglas then merged and became the globally known company, Boeing where Larry then transferred to Mesa, Arizona. Larry’s passion for new innovative ways to train became a habit on the volleyball court where he continued his passion for coaching. Larry never turned down a player striving to get better, no matter how great or terrible they were. He wanted to help young players, on and off the court, the best he could. Larry loved the hum of the ocean breeze, the tranquility of fishing, the rush on the craps table, the strategies behind coaching, a good chuckle to a funny joke, appreciated tasty sushi, and always loved having a great time with friends and family.
