Leroy was a fun loving, down to earth, fast paced people person. He was a likable, good looking, meat and potatoes kind of guy with a great sense of humor. Leroy was a loyal husband, a great father and had an upbeat optimistic outlook on life. He was a carpenter and could build anything from cabinets to store displays and houses. He was a Carpenter Contractor in Illinois before moving to AZ in 1959. Later in his life he worked at Kitt Peak National Observatory outside of Tucson.
Born on January 8, 1924 to John A. and Rose Stark, Leroy was raised on the farm in Cloverdale, IL. Leroy was a hardworking, unpretentious, good hearted man loved by many and will be remembered for his quick wit and full head of hair even at 89.
Leroy served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, flying as a B-24 Nose Gunner and flew in many missions; he was discharged at the Rank of Staff Sergeant in October of 1945 at the end of the war. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Oscar, who died in WWII. He was also preceded by his wife Milli (Stanek) Stark, whom he met and married in Cloverdale, Illinois and spent 62 wonderful years with until her passing in 2008. Although he missed her dearly after her passing, he continued to be a wonderful father and grandfather, and is now at peace with her in Heaven.
Leroy is survived by his loving daughters, Sandee (Mark) Kapellusch, Delcine (Bill) Hoeninger, his brother John Stark; six grandchildren: Kirsten, Brent, Sally, Holly, Billy and Tyler and five great grandchildren: Nathaniel, Logan, Blake, Nadia and Allison. He will be greatly missed by all. A celebration of his life and memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Central Christian Church, 965 East Germann Road, Gilbert, Arizona. Leroy will be interred with Milli at East Lawn Palms Cemetery at a later date.
