Linda T. Garza, 94, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on April 11, 2019. She was born April 13, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas. Linda’s legacy is her love of family, strong work ethic and faith. In 1947, she was married to Joseph M. Garza in San Antonio, Texas. They had five children, Blanca, Edna, Joey, Linda and Evelyn. Linda was true life partner with her husband. In 1959 they started a family Mexican food and import business, La Azteca in Ecorse, Michigan. Together, they celebrated over 50 years in business and 64 years in marriage.

Linda was a role model to her children, and exemplified the values of love, faith, strength, courage and independence. She taught her children how to live fully, and how to truly appreciate each precious moment of life together, by being present and being true to your dreams.

Linda adored Mother Teresa and truly modeled her life following one of her quotes: “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.” Linda knew no strangers. Everyone who knew her, loved her.

Thank you for the many lessons, many blessings and the opportunity to walk with you on your journey home and experience how to die with dignity and grace!

Linda is survived by her four children Edna and her husband Russ, Joseph Jr., Linda and her husband Steve, and Evelyn; six grandchildren Michele, Stephanie, Corey, Nicole, Angela and Joseph III; and nine great grandchildren Steven, Michael, Isabella, Natalie, Cole, Connor, Sophia, Preston and Ava. She is also survived by a sister, Evangeline.

“Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.” Mother Teresa

Private services will be held at the Lakeshore Mortuary on April 17, 2019 1815 South Dobson Road, Mesa, AZ 85202.

After many years, it was my pleasure to be able to connect with the family of my friend, Blanca. Our moms gave us the same values and principles then showed them by their example and in my opinion they did a great job. It was seen that Linda was given back the same dignity and respect that she gave to everyone she touched. It sounds like she had the perfect life of family and friends. Thank you for letting me part of her life celebration it was an honor!

My Dear Friend Evelyn and Family,
Our sincere sympathy to you and your family at the loss of your mother. We have fond memories of your mom giving the tamale making class at our home in L.P. Her knowledge and perfectionism was greatly appreciated. Much love and laughter was shared on that day. Ms. Linda was truly a saint. Her peaceful demeanor throughout her life shined through to all that had the opportunity to meet and know her. Everyone could use that lesson in life. So as you celebrate her life, please know that you are loved, thought of and prayed for today and always. May you find comfort in knowing that she is in heaven with your Father and our Lord and Savior.
We love you all so much!
With our deepest sympathy Love and Prayers,
Opal, Tammy and the Carbagal Family

You will be dearly missed by so many on this Earth. The love and care you have given to not only your family, but friends and even strangers, was so effortless. Anyone and everyone that had the opportunity to meet you were so very lucky. You were everything a Grandson could ask for in a Grandmother. You always had the time. You always wanted to share a laugh, a meal, a memory. Anywhere we were was always a cherished event. From everyone in the Kalvoda family, we all love you so very much and miss you terribly. Love, Corey...

Mrs. Garza was like a second mom to me. I can still hear hear soft voice calling upstairs for Linda to get to school. She was a beautiful lady inside and out.

I was given a love for Mexican foods by her good cooking. She always made me feel as if I were part of the family. There are so many memories of all the good times we shared. Lots of fun at the Ethnic Festivals on the Detroit River front. I sure will miss her. Hugs to Edna, Joey, Linda, and Evelyn and the rest of the family. Heaven is gaining one special angel. I love you all. Love, Marlene

It was a honor and a pleasure to know her and be apart of some amazing bonding moments centered around her. She will always be one of my most trusted and loved guardian angels.

(I felt an angel near today, though one I could not see. I felt an angel oh so close, sent to comfort me)

It's so sad to say goodbye, but I'm so grateful for many wonderful memories. Thank you for always being so warm and welcoming towards me. I will always cherish the memories of visiting you when we lived in AZ. You were always laughing, joking, and zipping around the house. I can see where Evelyn got her energy, and where Corey got his stellar sense of humor :) You were a true matriarch. Thank you for taking such good care of Evelyn and Corey over the years, and for being such a source of strength for them. I will always enjoy hearing the many wonderful stories about you from Corey's childhood. Thank you for being the best Abuelita. The kids are so lucky to have known such an amazing great-grandmother, and we will always carry on your memory. Love, Jenelle

My dear friend Linda...what a wonderful woman your was your Mom.

I have many fond memories in the Garza household on McClain Street...

Your mom would always have ( my favorite) Spanish rice on the stove, and home made tortillas when we came home from school. If this was supposed to be dinner for the Garza family, I do apologize, because we ate until we were full... there was never much left. One particular day I remember her telling me to take a drink of her "special" tomato sauce. Boy, I couldn't drink the milk fast enough to get the heat out of my mouth...she, and your dad , had a good laugh!

My heart goes out to you and all your family. The fond memories you all share of your mom are many. Your tribute to her is beautiful.

All my love,
Debbie Merta
