Lois Elvira Hunt, 86, died on January 21, 2025, at her home in Heber-Overgaard, Arizona.
A memorial service will be held at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary & Cemetery in Phoenix on Friday, January 31, at 3 p.m.
Lois was born on September 21, 1938, to Lee and Evelyn Munsil. She was among the first graduating class at Phoenix Camelback High School in 1956, where she was enrolled in the National Honor Society. A gifted artist, Lois later earned an AA degree in Graphic Arts (1978) and an AS degree in Electronics Technology (1981).
Lois worked as a clerk for the Phoenix Gazette after graduating from high school, and then as a secretary at Motorola from 1961 to 1966. After moving to California in 1966, she was able to be a “stay-at-home” mom, enjoying many years as a Cub Scout den mother and a Sunday School teacher at Los Altos Methodist Church. Her life was full of fun kid stuff, with room for a yard filled with dogs, rabbits, a cat, and even an adopted blue jay. She also found time to indulge her lifelong passion for gardening.
After raising her family, Lois went back to work, first at Suburban Newspapers, and then as a typist at GenRad. After a year, she proved to her boss at GenRad that she could write technical documents every bit as well as “the boys,” and was promoted to be one of the first female Tech Writers at GenRad. This led to a long career as a Technical Writer, including, after she returned to Arizona, nearly 20 years as a Senior Technical Writer at Motorola Computer Systems. Lois retired from Motorola in 1998, having advanced to the position of Project Leader.
Lois enjoyed some of the happiest days of her life when she met the love of her life, Marvin Ralph Hunt. Lois and Marv married in 1988, but she was widowed when Marv passed away in 1994.
During those years, Lois and Marv spent much of their free time in the Chevelon Canyon area of Northern Arizona, and eventually purchased and developed the Red Hawk Ranch, 30 miles north of Heber-Overgaard. Lois sold her home in Scottsdale in 2001, and moved to the ranch. Later in life, Lois turned the ranch into a farm where she grew acres of lavender plants and helped to develop the Windy Hills Lavender Farm and to operate a lavender boutique in Heber.
Lois is survived by her brothers Lee (Linda) Munsil and Wes (Janet) Munsil; her sisters Joanne (Ivan) Burnett and Martha Patterson; her three sons, Patrick, Timothy, and Bryan Schooley, and their spouses Lori, Sue, and Cindy Schooley; her 10 grandchildren, Erica Marr, Emily Wojtowicz, Sean Schooley, Jared Schooley, Samuel Schooley, Maxwell Schooley, Michelle Ellison, Jossie Cole, Stevie Schooley, and Skye Petronaci; and 12 great-grandchildren.
