2013. He was born in Long Beach, California on August 19, 1923 to Earl Henderson and Mary Damiana (Cervantes) Gunning.
Louis loved sports. In high school is played football, basketball, and participated in track. He received multiple awards and lettered in most sports. Louis loved college football and anything USC. He enjoyed watching the Lakers play during his retirement. He was an excellent wood worker; there wasn’t anything he couldn’t make. Louis also had a green thumb and was able to grow beautiful gardenias.
Throughout his life, Louis was a hard worker. He worked as a Tool and Die Maker for the auto and aerospace industry and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He arrived at Normandy two days after D-day as part of Operation Overland.
Louis is survived by his sons, Gary Gunning (Christine) of Chino Hills, California, Gordon Gunning (Jeanette) of Gilbert, Arizona, and Roger Gunning (Tracey) of Mesa Arizona; sister, Evelyn Mitchell of Bakersfield, California, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife and parents.
A visitation for Louis will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 6-8 pm at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care, 400 South Power Road, Mesa, Arizona 85206. Funeral services for Louis will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10:30 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, California 93306 with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A visitation will be held immediately prior from 9-10:30am. Arrangements entrusted to Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care and Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary.
