Margaret Evelyn Sundin, 88, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Copper Village in Mesa, Arizona. Margaret was born on August 4, 1922 in Ontonagon, Michigan, the fifth of seven children born to the late Andrew and Yarda (Anderson) Johnson. Margaret was raised on the family dairy farm in Ontonagon where she always preferred working outside with her brother rather than indoors.
She married Edward A. Sundin on October 16, 1939 in Iron Mountain, Michigan. Edward preceded her in death on March 6, 1993. The Sundin family lived in Kingsford, Michigan for many years and then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Upon retirement Margaret and Edward moved back to Iron Mountain but wintered in Mesa, Arizona. After Edward’s death, Margaret moved to Mesa.
Growing up in the woods of Ontonagon, Margaret loved the outdoors and the green pines of the surrounding woods and she loved the sun. She enjoyed sewing and she loved to read, especially books about the Pioneers, Alaska, and the American Indians. But her greatest joy was children, especially her grandchildren. She would just light up when children came into the room.
Margaret is survived by her children, Charles (Roxanne) of Platteville, Wisconsin, Bonnie (Robert) Lindemann of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Andrea (Donald) Carmichael of Mesa, Arizona and Zandra (Charles) Carmichael of Ramona, California; grandchildren, Sharon (Joseph) Rucinski, Douglas Sundin, Robert (Melissa) Feldbruegge, David (Gwendolin) Feldbruegge, PennyAnn (Keith) Wood, Rebecca (David) Pierce, and Charles (Grace) Carmichael; great grandchildren: Brian, Greg (Carli), Anthony, John, Elizabeth, Lauren, Isabella, Zachary (Amber), Dalton, Lucas, Kerrigan, Malachi, and Iria; and great great grandchild: Chloe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by brothers Henry and Walter Johnson, sisters Edith, Evelyn, Marion (Leslie), and Mildred Johnson, and grandchildren Rian and Ross Feldbruegge and Donald Carmichael.
We would like to express gratitude to the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, Family Services Division and Hospice of the Valley for their support in helping Margaret.
