As president of Our Lady Queen of Peace Rosary Society for many years, Marie was an inspiration to all of us.  She faced many obstacles during her lifetime but always remained strong and resolute and firm in her faith.

Marie was such a warm, loving, and funny woman.  She loved everything about life and she especially loved her children and grandchildren. I will especially miss her stories and her Minestra!!!!!! She will be missed by so many people. You will be in our hearts forever Marie!!!! Until we meet again.......love you.....

Marie was a special lady and we enjoyed the short time we have know her. Loved sharing good times with her at the Las Sendas Retirees Club and it's annual events.

Your mom may have told you about the summer the Sarno and the LarRue families rented a place near Pompton Lakes NJ.  There was a local kid who bullied the three cousins, Larry, Maryanne, and me.  One day I threw his shoe into the water right after he threw mine in, probably because I couldn't take it any more.  I didn't count on his swimming speed, and before I knew it he had caught me, held me upside down and dropped me on my head.  I went crying home and Aunt Marie took one look at me and took off after that kid.  We never saw him again. 

I also remember a boat ride to Bear Mountain - I think I spent the trip cuddled up to her.  She was very loving to us little kids. 

Then there was ice skating.  Now this may have been Aunt Jean's idea, but I bet Aunt Marie was in on it too.  The big thing there was the hot chocolate she bought for us.

The other memory that sticks out in my mind was her wedding to Uncle Pat, and her apartment in Jersey City just a few blocks away from our house on Concord Street.  Richie and I went there one day to see the beautiful boat that was displayed on the fireplace wall and to ask uncle Pat to help us make a turtle pool.  He did it right away, made it out of plaster of paris.  What a guy.

So you see that both your mom and dad were heroes to us kids.  I can't wait to see them again in Heaven.

Dear Patty and Richie,

I worked with Marie at Meldisco in Hackensack, NJ.  Although there was an age difference, we had such fun together.  There was a time where we laughed so hard we had to leave the office and go into the restroom to recover.  I loved listening to her stories; she was a wonderful person and although we lost touch over the years, I'm so lucky to have known her.

I am Richard La Rue, Aunt Marie's fourth oldest of her twelve nieces and nephews.  She was my God mother.  

She always was a very kind and lovable person...as was my Uncle Pat... and I am so sorry for my cousin's loss of their mom.  

I remember well how my aunt  Marie befriended me as a child:

When I was about nine years old, I delivered meat for a butcher shop in Jersey City by bike cycle on weekends.  The owner, Mike,  gave me exact change in advance to have available for the customer regardless of what denomination bill the person would present, so I was usually given an extra five or  ten dollar bill to carry just in case.

One day, I was horribly embarrassed after leaving a customer, to find that I had either lost a ten dollar bill or had given it as far too much change.  I wasn't even sure Mike even gave me the bill in advance but I was deathly afraid that if he had, he would think me dishonest or at least untrustworthy with money should I show up without it.   So I pedaled furiously in tears to Aunt Marie's door to borrow ten....twice my whole week's pay.... so I could quietly replace it...without my boss knowing....and of course with promises to repay my Aunt after several paydays.. 

Aunt Marie was so sympathetic and quickly gave me a replacement ten and I returned to the shop, dismayed that I lost so much, but happy to have concealed it from my boss.  When I arrived, the boss headed me off by handing me a ten and apologized for shorting me and he made me very comfortable with the whole thing, which totally surprised me.  What I did not know then was that Aunt Marie called Mike just after I left her house and politely told him what she thought about him putting any child in that position!

What Aunt Marie gave me...more important than the money....was the lesson is that if you do something nice for a child they will always remember it.   

I certainly will always remember her kindness and will miss her.

My memories of Aunt Marie are all good and and span over 75 years. They are many and varied and include:

Her ability to twirl a milk pail over her head without spilling any milk
Trips to Bear Mountain to teach me how to ice skate
Her marriage to Uncle Pat
Their visits to me at the Navel Academy
Her "open door" policy to help out any niece or nephew in need
Demonstrated strenth at the loss of Jackie and Robert

She was fun loving,smart,and a good sister,wife,mother,grandmother and aunt.

She will be missed!

Aunt Marie We will miss you deeply. I remember all the good memories we had with you,Uncle Pat and the family. My Mom your sister deeply misses you. She wanted me to tell you how much she love you and enjoyed seeing you in October. I am so glad we were all able to have seen you this past October.

We will always remember the warmth, humor, and love Marie gave in abundance to us. She truly enriched our lives...

How blessed we were to have Aunt Marie in our lives!  Not only did we have same-aged playmates in her children, but we had her own love showered on us in a million ways!  The parties, the home-made meals, the attention to our milestones... she never forgot any of us!  And she continued that same devotion to her great-nieces and nephews even when she moved all the way to Arizona to be with her own children.  How I will miss those caring phone calls!  Patty and Rich, please accept our loving condolences and extend them to all the Valgentos.  Know that we will hold her in prayerful memory as long as we live.  We wish you peace and strength in this time of trial and we are confident that she blesses you from heaven for your care of her.

We so enjoyed Marie's humor and ready smile at our Retiree's Club meetings. We looked forward to her stories and historical remembrances. We'll miss her very much.

Marie was a spirited lady who enjoyed being able to share a humorous story. She loved her children &grandchildren, all her family but she never failed to ask about your family. We are greatly saddened by her passing  & pray she is enjoying the company of God & family

Marie was such a beautiful lady who brought sunshine to our Sons of Italy Lodge.  I remember getting her up to dance at our 25th Anniversary party.  One year she made me a darling little angel for my Christmas tree.  I asked her if she could make more for us and she completed enough to fill our tables at the Christmas party.  We each got to take one home so we all have a sweet reminder of Marie to keep.  We will miss her greatly.
