Marilyn Joyce McIntyre was born February 17, 1936 in Rolette, ND, the daughter of Gordon and Beatrice (Boucher) McIntyre. She was raised on a farm with her two brothers in Churchs Ferry North Dakota.
She was a graduate of UND and began her career as a Registered Nurse. As a nurse she worked in many settings including hospitals, hospice, home help and retired after many years of service at Crosby Good Samaritan Center.
Marilyn married James E. Johnson on June 21, 1959 in Leeds, ND. They had lived in Churchs Ferry, Rugby, and Crosby, ND. They loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and several countries. Marilyn was legendary with packing a car for camping trips and road trips to visit family. There wasn’t a point of interest sign or a casino she allowed Jim to pass in the car. The tradition of overpacking gambling and exploring continues with her family. Marilyn had been a committed Girl Scout Leader and was proud to have visited 3 of their World Centers in Mexico, England, and the Swiss Chalet in Switzerland. She was also a member of First Lutheran Church at Rugby, the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary, and Rugby Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending her time on the computer, reading romance books, and card games, especially Bridge. She loved music & dance and attending plays and concerts. In the last 10 years she took great pleasure taking various family members to Ireland to share her favorite places and experiences there. Despite her dislike of steps she completed a lot of them in her 80s exploring castles, towers, churches and old cobblestone steps in France, Ireland, Wales & Scotland.
Marilyn is survived by 3 children, James H. (Terri) Johnson of Albuquerque, NM, Jonell Hopkins Pink Hill, NC, and Maureen (Kevin) Mullen of Cork, Ireland; granddaughter, Shantel Padilla and her children, Andrea, Ariel & Alano; granddaughter, Randi (John) Walker and their children, McKayla, Angelina, Brayden, Jayden, Mackenzie, Maci, Levi & John Keith; granddaughter, Jordan Johnson and her children, Jared & Elijah; grandson, Clayton Giampaolo, Rachel Mullen and her son Leon; 2 brothers, Donald (Joann) McIntyre of Surprise, AZ and Larry (Faye) McIntyre of Devils Lake, ND; sisters-in-law, Della Sundeen of Lakota, ND, Bernice Johnson of Grand Forks, ND; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a special Samoan daughter, Kumah Sacotte (Jason) and her sons Mason & Miles.
