Martha Esparza Diaz was born to Camillo Esparza and Helen Torres on September 22nd, 1939 in Santa Monica, California, passed away on September 5th in Mesa, Arizona. Martha’s siblings include Ruth Kolta, Daniel Hjelm and Carl Hjelm.
She attended Lincoln High School, in Lincoln Heights, California where she met Edward Diaz and they later eloped in 1957, they were married for 16 years. Martha is survived by her five daughters, Virginia, Irene, Christina, Delia, Sylvia, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and Ernesto her dog.
As a child she was given the nickname of “Peanut” because she was such a tiny baby and that name stuck with her throughout her life. Her grandchildren who adored her gave her the nickname of Lil “G”, because she was such a cool Grandma.
She worked for Guild Lingerie in her early years as well as ITT Cannon and retired from JBL Sound in 1984.
She was a talented seamstress and had a knack for fixing and was very creative, but most of all she was the best Mom, Grandma and great Grandma in the world.
She enjoyed listening to music, gardening, making flower arrangements, watching America’s Funniest Home Videos as well as documentaries about aliens. She also loved the ocean.
Her all time crush was Robert Redford.
We will all miss her dearly but will forever have wonderful memories of our time spent together.
Love,
The Girls
