A proud veteran, Marvin served in the United States Army. He received the Occupation Medal for his service in Germany during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Marvin worked in the construction industry driving semi-trucks; he worked with hot asphalt, and heavy equipment. He also worked for the dairy industry for a short time.
The dance floor is where he met the love of his life, Sarah. He kept asking her to dance, and after a while, Marvin told her that he was taking her home to meet his family. Marvin had fallen in love with Sarah and her daughter Rhonda. A short while later, Rhonda kept asking her mother, “When are you going to marry Marvin, so I can call him Daddy?” And that was all it took, she never called him Marvin again. They married at the 1st Methodist Church in Roseberg, Oregon. Sarah and Marvin spent 45 wonderful years doing the jitterbug, raising Rhonda, and thoroughly adoring their two grandsons, Nicholas and Tanner.
Marvin’s yard was a point of pride for him, it was always pristine. He and Rhonda would do the yard work together, and they passed that tradition down to Nicholas and Tanner as well. A hardworking family man is the best way to describe Marvin. Being a Grandpa was his pride and joy. He and Sarah took the boys on many adventures, including Disneyland, camping trips, and a boating excursion on the ocean. While on their first train ride, Nicholas and Grandpa slept under the stars, while Grandma and Tanner slept in the train car. Anytime the boys would go camping in Pine with their grandparents, they called it living the good life. Nicholas and Tanner learned from their Grandpa how to be a Man’s Man.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sarah Rathai; daughter, Rhonda Nickle; grandsons, Nicholas Redwine and Tanner Redwine.
