Mary Augusta Claspy went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 16th after a lifetime of service making our world a better place. While the world recognized her as an incredibly kind, quiet and mild-mannered woman with a great sense of humor and beautiful soul, her family and friends knew she was a true hero and the real Wonder Woman.
Mary was born October 16th, 1943 and diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at birth. While it appeared that her disease would leave her physically disabled, Mary resolved at a very early age not to be defined by her disability but to be known for her abilities. She lived her entire life proving people wrong, doing things that many thought she could not do. Mary graduated with an Accounting degree from Arizona State University and proceeded to work for Goodwill Industries for 40 years as an accountant before retiring.
Everyone who was blessed enough to know her knew Mary “Wonder Woman” Claspy was actually not disabled at all, she was a “superabled” hero and role model for all of us. She taught us all how to truly celebrate the grand adventure called life. Her self-reliance, spirit, courage, strength, determination, contagious smile and witty sense of humor will be forever remembered. Her family and friends will truly miss her, reflecting on her life with gratitude for the gifts she gave to the lives of everyone she touched.
Mary has been reunited with her mother and father Ralph and Rose Claspy and survived by her dear sister Patricia McCormick, nieces Karen Kukura and Cathy Waz and nephews Tom McCormick and Dan McCormick. The Funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, May 29th at All Saints Catholic Church, 1534 N. Recker Road, Mesa Az with burial service immediately following at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 E Main St. Mesa, AZ 85207. All are welcome to join for a Celebration of Life reception following the services at Apache Wells II, 5830 E. McKellips Road, Mesa, AZ 85215. For gate access please call 167 from keypad.
In lieu of flowers, do something heroic, be kind and make the world just a little bit better with your presence, Mary would have wanted that most.
