moved to Palo Alto, California in 1948. When she finished high school, she attended Pasadena
College in Pasadena, California. After college, she found work at United California Bank in Los
Altos, California. It was there she met the love of her life, David B. Moyer, Sr. They were
married in 1965. Four years later, they felt a call to the mission field. By then, they had 2
children, Melinda and David. They arrived in South Africa in 1972 to serve as missionaries with
the Church of the Nazarene. They worked at Ethel Lucas Memorial Hospital where she
supervised the laundry facility. Their third child, Jonathan, was born there in 1977. David and
Maryel’s next assignment took them to Durban, South Africa where they taught at Kwazulu
Nazarene Bible College. Maryel also directed the college choir. David was then asked to assist
the Regional Director, so the family moved to Johannesburg, where they lived until 1992.
Maryel was responsible for the publishing house for Africa. She also took on the role of
“regional hostess” and thrived while using her gift of hospitality to the many people she
entertained in their home. David, Maryel and Jonathan then moved to Nairobi, Kenya, where
David was principal of the Bible College and Maryel served as administrator at the college. They
left Kenya in 1996 and returned to South Africa to work in the South Field office. They returned
to the States in 2000, where David became director at Casa Robles Missionary Retirement
Center in Temple City, California. They retired from missionary service in 2006 after 34 years of
service with the Church of the Nazarene. Maryel spent her later years living with David in an
assisted living facility in Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, David, her
parents, and her sister Cynthia. She is survived by her 3 children, Melinda Bourdon (Troy), David
Jr (Tanya) and Jonathan, 6 grandchildren: Kaylen Moyer, Griffin Bourdon, Lauren Moyer, Phillip
Bourdon, Linnea Moyer, and Amelia Moyer as well as niece, Christina Smith (Steve) and
Cortland Reger (Michelle) and Brother-in-Law Paul Reger (Nancy). She had 7 other nieces and
nephews. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
