

Age 68 of Queen Creek Arizona passed away Sunday November 6, 2011 after a short hospitalization at the VA Medical Center in Phoenix. Mel was born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1943 the eldest son of Melvin and Lillian Marshall. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife Sandra, three children, (Matt Marshall, Jane Mendez, and Tricia Marshall) and three grandchildren, (Jordan Marshall, Joshua Marshall and Brianna Marshall), and two brothers Keith in Phoenix, Oregon and Richard in Medford, Orgeon.
Mel spent 15 years in the U.S. Navy and then worked as a mechanical engineer Green Bay WI., Berlin NH and Baton Rouge, LA. Mel and his wife retired in Arizona 5 years ago and he enjoyed traveling, hiking and working with the San Tan Chapter of the Arizona Archeological Society. Mel helped set up the first San Tan Chapter of AAS and was president of the chapter for two years. Throughout his life Mel enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family camping, hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader and enjoyed novels about history and the military.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday November 12, 2011 at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park, 6747 E. Broadway Rd, Mesa AZ. 85206 at 5:00pm with a reception and light fare at 5:30pm. Family and friends please join us to celebrate Mel’s life.
