

The family of Owen Dale O’Brien Sr. of Mesa, Arizona are saddened to announce his passing on June 12, 2025, at the age of 70 years. He was born on December 29, 1954, in Ray, Arizona to the late Dora L. Grabe and Gene O’Brien. Owen was married to the love of his life Wanda for 46 years until her passing in 2023.
Owen was proud to be a native Arizonan and lived his life to the fullest. He and his wife love to travel and go fishing whenever they could, but what he cherished the most was time spent with his children and grandchildren. He even became a so-called “gamer” to keep up with his granddaughters. He treasured his companionship with his little dog Sweetpea, who will also miss his presence.
Owen served in the Army for 30 years, including active service and retiring from the Army National Guard as a Captain. His military career spanned various parts of the world, earning him numerous commendations for bravery and leadership. His unwavering commitment to his country inspired all who knew him.
Following his military career, Owen continued to serve his community as a diesel electrical mechanic and supervisor with the ASARCO mining corporation for over 20 years.
He is survived by his children, Thomas O’Brien, David (Vickie) O’Brien, and Amanda (Aaron) Cruz, as well as Jennifer (Raymond) Pittman whom he loved like a daughter. Owen was a proud grandfather to Caitlyn Faith, Brianna, Brittany, and Mason.
Owen was a brother to the late Dora Jean Wittman, stepbrother to Clay Cooper, and half-brother to Michelle Payton. He is further survived by his stepfather, Greg Grabe, and other relatives and friends.
His love for his family will be cherished, and he will be profoundly missed.
A private service will be held at a later date.
