Patricia Kay Landwehr, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on November 2, 1943, in Kankakee, Illinois to Maude and Paul Spenard. Patti’s life was marked by an abundance of love, laughter, and the wonderful times she shared with family and friends.
Patti married Larry Landwehr in 1966 in Peoria, Illinois and together they built a beautiful family. In 1980 the snow and cold winters prompted a move across the country to sunny Mesa, Arizona. They spent many wonderful years raising their children, soaking up the beautiful weather, enjoying camping, traveling, bowling and playing and singing with Larry’s band. Patti loved entertaining and hosted many friends and family over the years. Her doors were always open. Throughout her life, Patti’s home was filled with friends, family, laughter and friendship.
Patti was a hard worker and although she considered her primary job to be “MOM”, she enjoyed a variety of occupations throughout her lifetime ranging from waitress and bartender in her early years, to realtor, and armed security officer. Ultimately, she retired from Motorola as an Electronic Technician after many years of continued education earning several accreditations and certifications in the booming “wafer” industry in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
In retirement, Patti found joy in her love for playing bridge leading to many long-lasting friendships. Patti was an ACBL Life Master and a dedicated Duplicate Bridge player. She played in duplicate bridge games in the East Valley, Scottsdale and Sun Lakes. She was a Club Director and Club owner as well. Patti also spent time volunteering to deliver food to various food banks and shelters. Whether it was through a lively game of cards, a spirited conversation, or just her ever-present smile, Patti’s spirit was a source of joy to all who knew her.
Patti was preceded in death by her husband of more than 30 years, Larry, her daughter Pamela, and her granddaughter September. She leaves behind her loving daughter Kim, her son Lenord, grandchildren Steven, Brandon, Jacob, and McKenzie, and great-grandchildren Ryder and Emily. Patti's family was the center of her world, and her legacy will live on through them.
Patti spent her later years with her companion, Dan Barrera, who was always by her side all the way to the very end. She loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. She loved spending time with friends and family. She spent a great deal of time traveling to visit both friends and relatives and enjoyed frequent trips to Mexico to soak up the sun and sea. Her love and laughter will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
A private family gathering will be held to honor her final requests. Patti did not wish to have a formal service and preferred that everyone remembered her when they were together and laughter and good times prevailed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Patti’s memory.
Rest in peace Patti, you will be deeply missed by many.
