Dr. Pauline Eddings was born on July 8, 1946 in Albuquerque, NM to the late District Elder Clayton and Mother Carmi Carr. The family subsequently moved to El Paso, TX because District Elder Carr received a called from the Lord that a church was needed there. That church, Bethlehem Temple, continues under the leadership of Elder Daniel Washington, Dr. Eddings’ brother-in-law.
Dr. Eddings excelled in her schooling, receiving various awards along the way. She graduated from El Paso Technical High School, where she was an honor student as well as a member of the Spanish Honor Society.
In February of 1966, Dr. Pauline Eddings and Pastor David Eddings were married in Phoenix, AZ, and it lasted over 53 years, until her passing on to reward. To that union, two sons were born, David Eddings II and Marlin Eddings.
She spent over two years in Turkey with her husband who was in the United States Army. There, as a civilian worker, she was commended for her commendable service and outstanding devotion to duty by the United States Air Force. Her additional work experience included the Phoenix Social Security Administration and the Veterans Hospital.
Dr. Eddings enrolled in Arizona State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education. Continuing her education, she received the degree of Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Having a thirst for education and teaching, she completed her education at Arizona State University by receiving a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in 1995. She taught briefly in elementary school but focused her gifts on church ministry.
For most who have met her, they experienced the loving teacher that she was. They would leave with some type of instruction, either Spiritual, Educational, Healthful, Practical or all the above.
She served faithfully as a teacher, mentor, and the women’s director for many years at her church. Her greatest contribution and what she will always be remembered for, was her awesome example of love. Her favorite words of encouragement were “Love Never Fails” and the need to love “86,400 seconds a day”. She exemplified those phrases in serving others in so many different capacities.
She is the one and only Dr. Pauline Eddings, a Holy, loving, and generous woman who taught and through her legacy, still teaches love in word and deed.
Those left to carry on her legacy are her husband, Pastor David Eddings, Sr.; two sons, David II (Deanna), and Marlin; one grandson, Warrick Ackerman; two sisters, Shirley Washington (Elder Daniel), and Pastor Adele Johnson (Bishop Richard) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
At her request, there will be no special services on her behalf. Her life of love is her legacy, and it will impact so many for years to come.
