Richard Scott Carroll

Richard “Scott” Carroll, age 77, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully at Banner Desert Medical Center, Mesa, Arizona, on Friday, July 10, 2026, surrounded by the loving care of his family. Richard “Scott” Carroll was born in Kansas City, Kansas on December 21, 1948, to the late Sheralee June (Hooper) Carroll and the late Richard Stiteler Carroll Jr. who both preceded him in death.

Throughout Scott’s growing up years he showed his entrepreneurial abilities by: building the largest local paper delivery route, selling ice cream on his bicycle cart, and restoring and selling classic and vintage cars, which became a lifelong love. Throughout his high school years he was actively involved in running track and graduated from Washington High School, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

After serving six years in the South Dakota Army National Guard, in 1976 Scott was honorably discharged. While serving, he entered into active duty from October 1970 to April 1971. In 1969 Scott received a Military Training Certificate for completing two years of instruction in the Senior Division, Reserve Officers Training Corps.

Scott met D’Wana Juve at church and they were married several years later on December 22, 1990 in New Brighton, Minnesota. From this marriage they were blessed with a daughter, Breanna, born January, 1999. They lovingly shared their lives together for 35 years and some of their favorite family memories together included traveling abroad and across the country.

Scott is survived by his wife D’Wana (Juve), daughter Breanna (Nicholas) DiGregorio; his two sons- Christopher (Paula) Carroll and Nathan (Laurie) Carroll; six grandchildren who were the joy of his life - Mariah (Alex) Cox, Bryce (Brooke) Carroll, Joshua (Ariana) Carroll, Sophia (Josiah) Skeate, Luca and Rocco DiGregorio; five great grandchildren Christian, Alaina, Hallie, Adelynn, and Bennett; brother Stuart (Kathy) Carroll and sister Sarah (Kevin) Ball. Scott’s family meant everything to him and they gave him great purpose in life.

A great entrepreneur defines Scott as a business man. He started and sold several successful companies in his adult years that included but were not limited to: Carroll’s Vacuum Service, Carroll’s Clocks and Railcar Solutions. In addition, he also managed a store for Baer’s Furniture. His businesses involved mechanical work, clock repair, train car cleaning and refurbishment, furniture sales, sales, real estate, and the building of scale steam tractors.

Throughout their marriage Scott and D’Wana provided an open home and open arms to all their family and friends. Scott attended Bethel Assembly while residing in Erskine for 15 years and will be remembered there fondly for his faith in action. His family has many wonderful memories being a part of the church and broader community.

Throughout his life Scott was a very giving man. Always thinking of how he could bless someone. Some examples of his caring ways: Purchasing hams at Christmas and distributing them to others, paying for someone’s gas at the gas station, setting up an endowment fund at Oak Hills Christian College in Bemidji, Minnesota.

In 2020, Scott and D’Wana moved to Mesa, Arizona from Erskine, Minnesota to live near their daughter and her family. There they have developed a great community of caring, loving friends in their neighborhood.

Scott was a sentimental, loving man at heart. He showed so many how to love God and care for others through his actions and deeds. He will be missed but not forgotten for his kindnesses.

A service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 11:00 am at Bethel Assembly in Fosston, Minnesota with Pastor Seth Johnson officiating. Family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service.
