

Robert was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a native to Arizona, born and raised in Phoenix, and lived most of his life with his family in the East Valley. Robert spent the majority of his professional career working for Goldwater’s Department Store. He began his career by working part time in the stockroom during high school and advanced up to the Senior Vice President of Operations, spending nearly thirty years with the company. After his time at Goldwaters he engaged in a number of other senior level positions with May Co., The O.P. Club, Office Plus (owned and operated) and Del Star before retiring.
Robert had a passion for music of all genres, from early rock & roll, classical, country & western, Mexican Rancheras, and more. In his down time he enjoyed reading. Favorite subjects included American and world history and Renaissance art. He studied the Civil War passionately. He also enjoyed watching movies from the early Hollywood era, musicals and westerns.
Robert excelled at nearly every sport he tried including basketball, handball, racquetball, tennis, billiards, and more. In his younger days he enjoyed coaching youth sports with his brother, Louis, and won several Pop Warner championships. Robert was a fan of sports and enthusiastically followed the Oakland Raiders and Phoenix Suns for years. His love of sports was formed early in life during afternoons at the Boys & Girls Club.
Robert was an avid photographer and his favorite subjects were his family and the sites around the great state of Arizona. Of all that Robert loved, none was more special or more important to him than his family. Time spent taking trips to the park, swimming in the family pool, family road trips around the state or throughout the West with the classics playing on the radio, for an afternoon, for a weekend, or longer to share his enthusiasm for life and the wild west culture building rich memories for all.
Robert is survived by his former wife Maria Espindola; his three brothers: Louis Espindola, Guadalupe Espindola, Leonard Espindola; four children: Robert Espindola Jr of Mesa, Arizona, Tessie (Guy) Mullins of Gilbert, Arizona, Traci Espindola of Phoenix, Arizona, and Tyrha (Nathan) Rzepka of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren: Anyha (Jason) Garcia, Edwin Irizarry, Anthony Espindola, Carina Espindola, Ryan Sheridan, Monique (Gavin) Sayadian, Zoe Mullins, Casey Mullins; and five great grandchildren: Ainsley Garcia, Owen Garcia, Levi Garcia, Mason Garcia and Lucas Espindola. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Guadalupe Espindola and Raul Espindola, and grandson Shane Mullins.
Public services for Robert will be at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care,400 S. Power Rd., Mesa, Arizona 85206 on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
