Roger graduated in 1955 from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in Hawaii. After serving, he moved to California where he met his future wife, Arlene, at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. Roger and Arlene were married in Los Angeles, CA in 1958 and later moved to Arizona in 1959. Roger worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the mortgage industry until retiring in 1987. After retirement, he worked at Central Christian Church in Mesa as the treasurer until 1998.
Roger’s life was filled with friends and service. He and Arlene enjoyed Friday night dinners with beloved friends for over 20 years. For many years, Roger served as the treasurer for the local chapter of Sons of Norway. He also shared his love and knowledge of genealogy with anyone wanting to learn. Throughout his life, Roger served his church through singing in the Church choir and serving on various committees. Roger and Arlene also hosted and attended Bible studies with their Church families for over 20 years.
Roger believed his family was his legacy and was happiest surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Those times included simple family gatherings, RV and camping trips, and a 50th anniversary cruise. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Arlene, four wonderful children, Stephen (Stacy) Camp of Flagstaff, AZ, David Camp of Mesa, AZ, Cynthia (Dan) Hood, of Gilbert, AZ, Catherine (Robert) Smith of Gilbert, AZ and ten wonderful grandchildren.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many, he will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Donations in memory of Roger can be sent to Grace Church, 8701 East Brown Road, Mesa, AZ 85207.
