Shelley was born in Washington, Iowa on March 16, 1954. She lived on a farm near Brighton, Iowa until she was five years old at which time she moved to Washington with her parents Bill and Ruth Horton and brother Vance Horton. Shelley and Vance both went to Stewart Grade School and then to Washington Jr High and High School. Shelley graduated in 1972.
After High School Shelley went on to the University of Iowa. In 1976 Shelley graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Marketing. During her schooling at the U of I she met a young man, Don Reig, who was a butterfly swimmer for the U of I. They later married at a big wedding on the farm in Birghton, Iowa. There is a picture of the wedding family on the table. Shelley and Don divorced five years later but remained friends until the very end.
Shelley was well liked by her friends and fellow workers wherever she went. She was very friendly with a bubbling personality which attributed to her success in the marketing field. She was well loved by her close family and her aunts, uncles and cousins in Kansas City. She was a trend setter dressing in the latest styles of clothing, jewelry and hair styles, etc.
Her career took off soon after college where her first job in marketing was with Pepperidge Farm Foods. She worked there for two years before taking a job with Becton Dickson Hospital Supply where she became the top sales person out of 75 in her first year. By that time she was doing very well financially.
The next move was to Laguna Beach, California and she went to work for Intermedics Interocular. She worked in Sweden for a month with that company. She lived there for five years before moving to Atlanta, Georgia. Her next job was with Kimberly Clark as a product manager where she worked for ten years. Shelley went on to work for a company selling multi-million deals for FDA required drug trials.
Shelley loved to travel and has been pretty much around the world. All over Europe, Asia and Caribbean. There was one trip she took to Pacquet, Viet Nam which was exactly one year before the huge Tsunami took place in Sri Lanka which would have gotten her if it was a year later.
Shelley lived in Atlanta for 28 years before selling her house and moving to Arizona to be with her Mother and Brother. Her health began to decline after getting an Essential Tremor which made it difficult to eat and to carry on a normal life. Finally she had broken her hip from a fall two months ago and then broke it again and was in the hospital when she suffered a massive heart attack and passed away on November 30, 2022.
Shelley is preceded in death by her Father, Bill Horton and survived by her Mother, Ruth Burdick and Brother, Vance Horton.
