She was born in Los Angeles, Ca on 5/17/37 to Jesus and Felicitas Baca.
After being on the newspaper staff, cheerleading squad, ROTC and Queen of many dances, she
graduated salutatorian from Bowie High School in 1955. She lived most of her life in El Paso and
retired from the YWCA in 2002, where she worked as a financial advisor.
In 2008, she and her husband Joe, moved to Arizona to live and enjoy retirement and be near
family.
Socorro was a strong and independent woman. She believed in hard work and the rewards that
came from such efforts. She was a devout catholic and tried to teach her children faith in a
higher power and to walk kindly in life. She thought often of those she loved and cared for
prayed for them all. She was an avid scrapbooker, she loved to read and listen to her music.
Above all she loved her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a
wonderful and caring mother and grandma. She instilled in her children the value of respecting
oneself and to never forget our obligation to family. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by four of her five children. Elsa Ross of Maricopa, AZ, Ricardo Baca of Flagstaff,
AZ, Robert Baca and Ruben Baca of Austin, TX, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and
her sister Irene Sierra and her 4 daughters of El Paso, TX.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Gomez and her son Rene Baca, JR.
Services will be held Friday, July 30, 2021 at 11:00 am at Advantage Melcher Chapel of The Roses, 43 S. Stapley Dr., Mesa, AZ 85204.
