Sonja K. Nicastro, 76, of Mesa, AZ died unexpectedly on June 22, 2022, at her home due to natural causes. She was born March 13, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas the daughter of Joseph C. Smith and Jeanette Lee Summers. Sonja graduated from Camelback High School class of 1964. Following graduation, she traveled a bit before marrying Ralph Nicastro. They settled in Arizona and enjoyed 42 years of marriage and two wonderful children. Sonja advanced her career through hard work and college, she retired as a Senior Buyer in Purchasing for Wincup Corp. Sonja enjoyed spending her free time with family and friends. Her hobbies and accomplishments were reading, dancing, and home remodeling projects as well as advocating and fighting for the rights of our military veterans. Sonja was a free spirit and believed that life was about helping people and unconditional love. She adored her children but especially doted on her granddaughter Ashlee. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Patrick Nicastro, husband Ralph Nicastro, brother Foster Burchett Jr., as well as three beautiful nieces, one brother in law, 3 sisters in law and Mother in law Celia Scaccia. Surviving are daughter Alissa Nicastro-Magallanez, son in law Emmanual Magallanez, granddaughter Ashlee Nicastro Magallanez of Mesa, sisters Karla Smith, Karen Smith Davis and brother in law Lane Davis, brother Michael Smith all from Oklahoma, Viola Inklaar (aunt) of Wichita, KS., many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held 11a.m Tuesday July 5, 2022 at Melchers Chapel of the Roses, 43 S. Stapley Drive, Mesa, AZ 85204 with small reception afterwards at her home.
