

Born on August 28, 1942, in Marshall, Michigan, Tom lived a life rich in learning, service, and connection. A proud graduate of Western Michigan University, Tom continued his education by earning his Juris Doctor from the Detroit College of Law. Tom devoted his professional life to education — first as an elementary school teacher, then as a principal, and ultimately as Superintendent of Schools for Southgate, Michigan. His passion for shaping young lives and strengthening communities left a lasting legacy that continues to touch countless students, educators, and families.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia (Ochocianski) Withee, his sister Pamela, and brother, James. Throughout his life, Tom found great joy in sailing, baseball, IndyCar Racing, bridge and most of all, spending time and enjoying breakfast with good friends and family. In 2005, he retired to The Villages in Florida, where he embraced the game of golf and formed many cherished friendships within the vibrant retirement community.
In 2021, Tom moved to Gilbert, Arizona, to be closer to family. He is survived by his two loving children, Jennifer (Jamie) and Paul (Melissa), his three treasured grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, and Anabelle, and his cherished brother, Daniel.
Tom will be remembered for his sharp wit, generous spirit, unwavering integrity, and deep love for those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, as brother, husband, father, and Papa.
