Wayne Fasel, known to his family and friends as “Skip”, passed away on Friday morning, June 10, 2011, after battling cancer for over a year and a half. Skip was a gentle, creative, and compassionate husband and father, beloved by his family. A Christian with a servant’s heart, he was a devout member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Springerville, Arizona, where he offered assistance, wisdom and guidance to fellow church members. His ministry also included leading worship, acting as a youth pastor, and teaching Sunday school.
Born to Clarence “Ted” Charles and Betty ”Polly” Pauline (nee Roper) Fasel in Gary, Indiana, Skip arrived on February 11, 1940 and grew up in Valparaiso, Indiana. He proudly served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall. He attended Indiana University, earning his Bachelor Degree at night while supporting his family as an accountant with Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Later he moved with his family to Arizona to work for Tucson Electric Power, retiring in 1998.
Many of Skip’s accomplishments were shared by the love of his life, Sally Lee Fasel. They were married on February 13, 1965 in the Beck Chapel at Indiana University, in Bloomington Indiana. Skip and Sally have 4 wonderful children, who will always treasure the guidance and counsel that their father passed on to them. They lived in Eagar, Arizona, in the White Mountains, for 30 years, where as a family they enjoyed camping, hiking and fishing together. Skip and Sally, celebrated 46 years of marriage, a loving union, blessed by God.
His parents, and his mother-in-law, Claire Williamson, preceded Skip in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Fasel of Eagar, Arizona; father-in-law, Ward Williamson of Mesa, Arizona; step-mother Margery Fasel of Valparaiso, Indiana; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Tracie Fasel and their children Connor, Claire and Cade of Statesville, North Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Brooke and Mark Bradshaw and their children, Ashley and Andrew of Fort Collins, Colorado; son, Jacob Fasel of Gilbert, Arizona; son, David Fasel, of New York City; brother, Jim Taylor of Mesa, Arizona and sister Carol Lazaro of Brownsville, Indiana.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care. A funeral service to honor Wayne “Skip” Fasel will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6474 East Broadway Road, Mesa, Arizona 85206 (480) 830-4422.
