Wayne Burton Finke, age 89, passed away gently, surrounded by family and loved ones, on April 8th, 2018. He was born on July 27, 1928 in Freelandville, Indiana to Gilbert George Henry Finke and Hazel Carrico. He had one brother, Harold, that passed away in 1991.Wayne is survived by his partner Sallie Thorp, two sons Michael Finke and Wally Finke, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne lived in Freelandville until he was 7 years old, when he moved to Vincennes, Indiana. Wayne spent his years in Indiana enjoying working on the family farms, racing ponies and hogs, and participating as a member of the 4H Club. These years fostered handiness and discipline, as well as a desire to create things; these traits could be seen in Wayne throughout his life. For instance, he served in the U.S. Army as a communications sergeant, and used these skills when serving in the Korean War; he created iron gates for a project for the City of Mesa. Later in life, woodworking, keeping the yard immaculately manicured, helping neighbors and people he met along the way with projects, and spending time with his loving companion of 35 years, Sallie Thorp, and family became the focus of his passionate personality. Let us not forget his intense love of sports, from the Phoenix Suns, to the Cardinals, and then his beloved Diamondbacks - he never missed a game. Graveside services were held at 10:00 AM, on Friday, April 13, 2018.
