William (Bill) Louden Fisher (88) passed away peacefully with family by his side on July 4, 2020 in Gilbert, AZ. He was known and loved by many, especially those who called him Dad, Grandpa, Papa and Popsie. He taught us many lessons over the course of his life and will always be remembered fondly.
Bill was born on December 9, 1931 to Frances Mabel (Louden) Fisher and Ezra William Fisher in North Platte, NE. He graduated in 1949 from North Platte High School and attended Colorado University from 1949 to 1951. On July 19, 1951 he married Barbara (Barb) Merleen Lewis also of North Platte, NE. Bill and Barb celebrated 52 years of marriage and a life that took them across the United States. He served in The United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was stationed in Sandia Base Albuquerque, NM from 1952 to 1955 where he was an instructor in the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project. From 1955 to 1966, Bill worked in southern California for the Atomic International Division of North American Aviation. In 1966, Bill’s career took his family to Washington State where he worked at Battelle Memorial Institute (Hanford). In 1971, Bill joined the Atomic Energy Commission, which later became the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). From 1971 to his retirement in 1995, he worked at NRC regional offices in Chicago, IL and Arlington, TX finishing his career at NRC headquarters in Bethesda, MD. In 1995, Bill and Barb retired to Sedona, AZ. Following Barb’s death in 2003, Bill moved to Gilbert, AZ to be closer to family.
As a child and young adult, Bill was an incredible concert pianist. His attention to detail and continual drive for perfection took him to music halls around the country. As an adult, Bill became an avid golfer who enjoyed playing with family and friends. He loved watching golf and honing his skills. He was a master with woodwork and enjoyed working in his woodshop, making beautiful masterpieces for his friends and family. Together Bill and Barb enjoyed history and frequently took “rides” to famous historical sites. He had an incredible knack for remembering the details of everything he learned over the course of his life and would frequently share this knowledge with others. In his later years, Bill loved to watch sports and could recount the great plays, catches and putts with the best of them.
Bill is proceeded in death by his parents Frances Mabel (Louden) Fisher and Ezra William Fisher, his sister Twyla Fisher, wife Barb, son Billy and grandson-in-law Jason Prigge. He is survived by his daughter Debbie Moore and son Rick Fisher (Ann). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jami Prigge, Sara Federico (Tom), Michael Fisher (Annie), Tori Fisher, Katie Fisher and great grandchildren Kyle Prigge, Kaleb Prigge, Kait Prigge, Ella Federico, Mia Federico, Luca Federico, Jaid Price and Emeri Price.
