Born to his beloved parents, evangelist V.J. John and Aleyamma John on February 28, 1940, in Thadiyoor, Kerala, India, Abraham Manaloor (Monichen) lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering love for his family, and a heart committed to serving others. Being a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and faithful servant of God, he entered his eternal rest on January 30, 2026 at the age of 85.
After completing his studies and working briefly in Bombay, he wed Aleyamma (Kunjunjamma) on July 4, 1968 and began a beautiful marriage rooted in devotion, prayer, and mutual support.
In 1968, the late Rev. P.V. George brought Monichen to the United States, where he first arrived in Philadelphia and continued his studies. In 1969, he immigrated to Ontario, Canada, with his wife joining him the following year. He became a founding member of the congregation in Toronto that would later grow into the Canadian Mar Thoma Church.
In 1980, the family moved to the United States, settling near Dallas, Texas, where Monichen played a pivotal role in the formation of the Mar Thoma faith community in Dallas. He was instrumental in securing the church facility in Grand Prairie which was used for worship, and he later contributed significantly to the purchase of the land that is currently home to the Mar Thoma Church of Dallas, Farmers Branch. Additionally, he helped in the formation of the North American and Europe Diocese in his role as a Mandalam Member and first Sabha Council member from North America. He cherished the opportunity to serve for eight years as the Garland Prayer Group leader.
In 2004, he became a founding member of the Sehion Mar Thoma Church in Plano, where he deeply valued fellowship with all members, especially the STARs (Seniors Together After Retirement) group, which brought him great joy and companionship.
Over the years, Monichen worked as a lab technologist, stock broker, and as a Texas Real Estate Agent and Broker, officially retiring in 2017. He was also part of a real estate partnership that not only led to successful investments but also forged a lifelong friendship among the four partners and their families, one that has truly stood the test of time.
Outside of work, he found joy in church activities and stayed engaged with the world around him by following American and Indian politics with keen interest. One of the highlights of his life was actively participating in the campaigns of his eldest daughter as she ran for a Murphy City Council seat. He adored his grandchildren and proudly claimed the title of “official school pick‑up driver,” a job he took far more seriously (and joyfully) than anyone else. He measured his success not by his own accomplishments, but by what his children and grandchildren were able to achieve. Their education and milestones were his greatest source of pride.
He loved to travel and had the privilege of visiting many places, with Alaska, the Mediterranean, China, and Costa Rica being his favorites, especially because he shared these experiences with his family and close friends.
Monichen is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Kunjunjamma; his children, Elizabeth (Jisha), Rachel (Jiby), and John (Jiju); their spouses, Reny, Rev. Roy A. Thomas, and Tigi; and his eight treasured grandchildren, Jessica, Hannah, Isaiah, Faith, Jeremiah, Serena, Eva, and Jonathan. He is also survived by his younger siblings, Joy and Thankamma; his beloved nephew, Rev. Dr. P.G. George; and many nieces, nephews, and members of a large extended family, along with a wide circle of dear friends who will remember him with deep affection and gratitude.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, who now welcome him into eternal rest.
The legacy of Abraham Manaloor, especially his faith, passion, kindness, humility, and lifelong commitment to serving God and community, will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His love for family transcended all boundaries and will never be forgotten.
