Betty Lou Rowlands, age 79, passed away on June 20, 2018 in Mesquite, Texas. She was born on July 21, 1938 in Fort Worth, Texas to Robert and Dollie “Viola” Shires. Betty was raised in Mesquite, Texas and graduated from Mesquite High School in 1959. She married Henry Rowlands in 1973. She was a devoted and loving housewife.
Her favorite pastime was to go on walks with her beloved husband Henry. They walked everywhere together and were known by most of the community as the walking couple. Betty also loved to play games of all kinds. Some of her favorites were: Jacks, Frisbee, Croquet, and Canasta. In her later years, she enjoyed watching classic television shows and movies, especially westerns starring John Wayne. One of her favorites was North to Alaska.
Her family and friends will always remember her as an honest, loving, quick-witted person with a great sense of humor.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Dollie “Viola” Shires, husband Henry Rowlands, and her brothers Samuel and Sidney Shires.
Betty is survived by her brother and sister in law, Walter and Carol Shires, sister in law Eloise Shires, Nieces Cathy Lowrance, Cheryl Shires, Rose Orrell, and Kathleen Wilhite, as well as her Nephew Patrick Shires. She is also survived by her dear neighbor and friend of 62 years Gloria “Jane” Slocum and a host of extended family and friends.
