Charles David Legler, known as "Charlie," "Chaz," and "Chuck," left this world on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the age of 42, at his home in Sachse, Texas. He is the father of Maxwell (Max) David, age 11, whom he loved more than anyone. He called Max "his heart."
Born on March 19, 1979, in Dallas, Texas to Teresa (Coleman) Legler and Larry Legler, Charlie spent his childhood in Richardson. After graduating from L.V. Berkner High School in 1997, he built a landscaping business that he owned for 17 years. Friends would regularly see Charlie's Legler Land Management trucks all around the Richardson area, doing the kind of work he was good at and loved to do. And working right alongside Charlie over the course of his career were his three favorite dogs, Hayley Bear, Sarge & Major, that meant so much to him.
Some of his favorite memories were from the summers when he attended an East Texas Christian camp, called Camp Deer Run, and from the time he spent at his grandparents' home on Lake Houston. In his adult years, Charlie enjoyed spending time with his friends on Lake Lavon. He loved doing thrill-seeking activities like boating, wakeboarding, skydiving & skiing.
Music really resonated with Charlie and seemed to help him express his emotions. He would often share songs that meant something to him with his friends and family. Johnny Cash was one of his favorite artists.
Charlie had the greatest sense of humor, and though sometimes inappropriate, he never failed to make people laugh. He had a compassionate heart for others, and, when seeing their needs, he always did his best to help whenever he could.
Always remembered for his mischievous antics, his distinct laugh, and his movie-star good looks, Charlie always played by his own rules. He blazed his own path, learning his own hard life lessons, and then shared this wisdom with others. He certainly wasn't a stranger to charming his way into someone's heart.
Charlie made one of the most important decisions he could ever make on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1991, when he gave his life to Jesus Christ in baptism. It is with this assurance that we know Charlie is in the arms of our loving Savior, who has taken all of Charlie’s cares away.
Charlie is preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene and Hope Legler and Charles and Rogene Coleman. He is survived by Max Legler, Teresa Legler, Larry Legler, his three sisters, and their spouses, Lindsay Legler Shuttlesworth and husband John, Katie Legler Longley and husband Donny, Hayley Legler Webb and husband Jeff, as well as five nephews, three nieces, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A visitation for Charles will be held Monday, November 15, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Prestoncrest Church of Christ, 6022 Preston Crest Ln., Dallas, Texas 75230. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 1:00 PM, 6022 Preston Crest Ln., Dallas, Texas 75230.
Charles will be laid to rest in Grove Hill Memorial Park, 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75228.
