Cindy Hartley, lovingly known as “Nana” to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully at her home in Forney, TX, on June 7, 2025, surrounded by her closest family. She was 64 years old.
Born in Dallas, TX, on September 24, 1960, Cindy was the daughter of Juan and Tomasa Castillo, who preceded her in death. She was a proud graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas and went on to build a beautiful life centered around family, love, and joy. On March 28, 1981, she married the love of her life, David Hartley. Together, they raised two daughters: Melissa Taylor (married to Jeremy Taylor) and Laura Smith (married to Tyler Smith).
Cindy found immense joy in her role as Nana to her beloved grandchildren: Alyssa Hartley, Ryker Smith, and Axel Smith. She had a heart for family and a home always filled with warmth, laughter, and delicious baked goods. She loved spending time with her loved ones, playing Bunco with her friends, shopping, traveling, and soaking up peaceful days at the lake. Her days were often filled with cooking shows, Hallmark movies, and sweet time with her dog, Harley.
Cindy is survived by her siblings: Linda Varnon, Juan Castillo Jr., and Alfredo Castillo. She was also blessed with a special relationship with her beloved niece, Stephanie Villarreal, who lovingly cared for Cindy throughout her illness, standing by her side like another daughter.
Cindy’s kindness, joyful spirit, and contagious smile left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
A memorial service celebrating Cindy’s life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 10:00 am. The service will be held at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral home located at 1111 Military Pkwy in Mesquite, TX.
