He studied in Seventh-day Adventist schools right from Hapur SDA Elementary School to Roorkee High School and then to Spicer Memorial College, earning the degree in 1963 - Major in Business Administration and Religious Philosophy minor.
Right after his graduation he was appointed in Jalandhar (North India Section) as Accountant, where he met love of his life Mercy Kodan, who was teaching in the school at that time. They fell in love and got married on December 23, 1965.
Just to make it short we are listing his work history in the Seventh-day Adventist church:
*SDA Hospital (Ruby Nelson Memorial), Jalandhar - Accountant
*Northern Union, New Delhi in Publishing Department - Accountant
*Indore – Principal, SDA Elementary School
*Western Union office in Bombay as an accountant.
From here he left for USA with his wife and son Manoj with a dream of completing his education abroad. God made it possible for him and he graduated with MBA degree from University of Dallas, TX and then he got a job as Controller of Finance for Pizza Inn Corporate Office Covering North America.
After Mona’s birth he and his wife decided to come back with family to India and Spicer Memorial College offered him to join the teaching staff as Professor in the School of Business. The other job assignments that followed were:
*Director of Adventist Communication Center in Salisbury Park, Pune
*PADMAC Hospital in Pune as Business Manager
* Ranchi SDA Hospital as Manager.
*Southern Asia Division, Hosur as Director for Home Scheme Department.
In 1996 he, along with his family moved to USA again – this time for good. By God’s grace & leading they settled down in the same city where they began their life in Garland, TX (USA)
In US after 1996 he worked at Sears Corporate Finance Headquarters covering all stores for North America supervising all Accounts. He retired from there in 2011.
Although he got many chances to work outside the church, but he turned down many opportunities because of his strong belief in Sabbath truth according to the Bible.
Another page is turned and we see him as a respected citizen. He shared his expertise with anyone who would listen, he worked hard consistently and he remained a student of life. He led by example as he mentored his nephews and nieces and his own children in a way that anyone of them can say that he was an inspiration in their lives. All his life, he worked taking pride in his work, being honest and straight forward – right was right and wrong was wrong for him, in his thoughts and actions. He was very hard working, well disciplined and organized. Devoted to his job and family which gave him satisfaction.
We all knew him as a very private but loving man whose quiet faith guided his actions, words and deeds. He was a true Christian. He strove always to be the best he could be - family man, father, brother, friend.
We will remember him through the many people still left behind whose lives he touched so positively. Leaving an amazing legacy behind. Through them he leaves this world a better place than when he found it and for that he was very proud of. He loved traveling and taking pictures, his small comb was always in his pocket to fix hair just before the shoot, with a big broad smile. And he made sure he told others to give a big cheesy smile.
He loved old Hindi movies, especially Dev Anand’s. His sisters and friends used to call him Dev Anand because one could hear him singing Dev Anand’s songs all the time.
He is survived by his wife Mercy – married for 55 years, his dearest daughter Mona. Dearest son, Manoj Martin, his wife Shawna and two grandsons – Ian and Shane.
His two younger sisters Saroj, her husband Lawrence Wagh and their children & families, youngest sister Ruby, her husband Pastor Shish Paul Chand (who was his life long best friend and school buddy since elementary school days until College and then became his brother-in-law), their three daughters and their families. He will be deeply missed by his family, host of extended family members from both sides, friends and his students.
The Lord called him to his rest on May 10, 2021. He slept in the Lord peacefully, now waiting to be awaken at Jesus second coming.
