David Lewis Abney

David L. Abney, age 92, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 in Mesquite, Texas. He was born on November 17, 1931 in Beeville, Texas to David L. Abney and Peggy Payne Abney. David was raised in the San Marcos area and attended The University of Texas in Austin where he studied Engineering. David worked for Dresser Industries in International Sales, he then went on to become the owner of David L. Abney, Inc in Seagoville where he worked for more than 20 years. He was loved and respected by all of his employees.

In his spare time David enjoyed cooking and reading. His family and friends will always remember him as a quiet and very giving person. David was also a member of the Masons.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David L. Abney and Peggy Payne Abney; daughter, Cynthia Lynn Douglass and brother, James Abney. David is survived by son, Tim Abney and wife, Pat; daughter, Kelly Willis and husband, Scott and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation for David will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Anderson Clayton Gonzalez Funeral Home, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A graveside service will occur Friday, December 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at San Marcos City Cemetery, 1001 Old Ranch Rd 12, San Marcos, Texas 78666.
