
As mom told you, this will be one of hardest moments in our life, but we will get through this. Please don’t worry about us. We will be ok, but it’s just going to take time. It’s going to take a lot of time. My life will never be the same without you here.

Oh, Daddy,
You’ve been gone almost a whole week. I didn’t want to post on here, but mom wanted us to. Let’s be honest, this is making me deal with my feelings and we both know how much I hate dealing with feelings. I also didn’t want to turn this into one big cliché, but I guess we will see where this goes. 
I know you asked mom probably a thousand times how I was dealing with this and if I was ok. I will be quite honest with you; I am not ok. My heart is shattered beyond repair and I feel like a huge piece of me is gone. If you know me at all, I am the biggest daddy’s girl in the world. I always knew this day would come, but that doesn’t make any of this any easier. I feel like you were robbed of so much and I find myself getting angry. They say anger is all part of the healing process, right? I also find myself asking why. Why you, why my daddy?
Now that you are gone, I feel like I am in a movie. You know where they show the memories in small clips? I keep replaying a time when I was little, you came home from work after working god knows how many hours, and you sat and played Barbies with me. I don’t think I ever thanked you for that. I didn’t thank you for a lot of things, and that makes me cry even more, for being so selfish. I took you for granted and that hurts too. Thank you for loving me even when I was a teenager and so self-absorbed in my own world. When I was absolutely awful and probably didn’t deserved your love, but you loved me through it. You were always so patient even when I pushed you and mom to the breaking point. We know how much I love to push those boundaries. 
Your love for me will be irreplaceable. This is probably why I am not married, or maybe I am just trying to beat you in that. You were the best daddy I could ever have. There goes the cliché I talked about earlier. You worked so hard to make sure we had everything we needed, plus more. I know how hard work pays off from watching you.

Doug and I grew up together in Tahlequah, Ok.  He attended Bagley Grade School and I attended Sequoyah.  In the 6th grade my class was crowded into the Bagley building while a new building was built for Sequoyah and the totally new Cherokee Grade School was built.  I got to know Doug and his family much better that year.  Doug was a real gentleman, even under very crowded conditions.  He always had a smile and a positive attitude.  His entire family were models of discipline, duty, and devotion.  His Dad was our Oklahoma History teacher in Junior High and also served as a class sponsor.  Doug was a peacemaker, full of initiative, and always taking up for the downtrodden.  He set a high bar for all to follow and obviously had the Holy Spirit at work in his heart.  I looked forward to every class reunion with great anticipation of having Doug in our midst.  What a blessing he was.  I will miss him here but see him there.  Sincerely, Larry Culver

I only came to know Mr. Doug a short while ago, but knew that he was a good man that loved and cherished his Family. He was a great dog-sitter too! :)  Brenda, Cherri and Charlie, my heart goes out to you all during this time. You are in my prayers.

Doug was a great Uncle!  He opened the door for me to the world of Star Trek (1978), computers with a gift for Christmas - a brand new TI 99/4A (1983), and electrical work (2005).  Love you dearly and I will never forget you or what you taught me Uncle Doug!
