

George M. Ortiz gained his wings on August 2, 2026, at the age of 93 years old in Mesquite, TX. Born on July 20, 1933, he was the beloved child of Delfina Morales and Richard Ortiz. Growing up as a teenager and a young man, George spent much of these formative years between Dallas, TX and Mexico City, Mexico. With this unique upbringing, he was able to adapt between two countries that helped shape the steady strength of character that he possessed throughout his life.
In 1953, George joined the U.S. Navy when he was 20 years old. He proudly wore his uniform with unwavering pride for 10 years active and 21 years reserve. On November 24, 1955, George married Ramona Hernandez. They shared 58 years of marriage and raised five children together. He worked at Neiman Marcus as their in-house tailor for 30 years between the downtown Dallas and Ft. Worth, TX boutique stores. He led by example from his strong work ethic as he remained devoted to his family with his time, love, patience and kindness.
In George's heart, two things mattered the most, his family and the U.S. Navy, he still carried the pride of a sailor in everything he did and the mannerisms he carried. He spoke of those years with deep appreciation and affection, you could always see the twinkle and smile in his eyes. He enjoyed sharing his memories with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In sharing his recollections, it was another testament of his lasting courage, perseverance and a faithful commitment to his country.
George will be remembered for a life lived with strength, courage, gentleness and loyalty for his family that was unmatched. His kind-hearted spirit made others feel seen and valued. His legacy lives on in the faces of his family that he loved so deeply and cherished.
George is preceded in death by his wife, Ramona H. Ortiz, his son, George A. Ortiz, and his grandson Joseph E. Ortiz. He is survived by his daughters Norma, Rebecca (Naomi), Cristina (Travis), and his son James (Marina). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Margie, Vincent A., Michael, Marcus, Nick, Devon and Vinny. He has 12 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
