Gladys Marie Payne

Marie Payne, a beloved resident of Mabank, Texas, passed away on February 10, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on May 31, 1931, in Almadane, Louisiana, Marie was one of 12 children of Minnie Fowler and Noris Craft.

Marie was a devoted and faithful individual, known for her humorous, kind-hearted, and selfless nature. Her resilience and thoughtfulness were evident in her generous and loyal spirit, making her a cherished presence in the lives of many.

An entrepreneur at heart, Marie had a career that spanned various industries, including funeral service, antiques, nursing, and barbering. Her interest and skills in these fields were a testament to her versatile and industrious nature.

In 1971, Marie married Albert Dean Payne, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. Together, they raised nine children, who in turn blessed her with 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, all of whom enriched her life immeasurably.

Marie had a passion for cooking, sewing, gardening, painting, reading, dancing, and writing. Her love for these activities was matched by her commitment to her community, where she volunteered at the local food pantry and participated in various church-affiliated programs and orphanages.

She was deeply involved in the lives of her children and took great joy in making people smile. Marie always rooted for the underdog and believed that neighbors were like family. She enjoyed sharing stories of her community with family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love.
