Gwendolyn Bernice Childers

Gwen (Dennie) Childers, 96, of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away April 28, 2023.

She was born August 11, 1926 in Irving, Texas to Andrew Bryan Hoops Sr. and Dovie Mae Haygood Hoops.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Henry (RH) Childers and a daughter, Ryan Carmella Childers.

She is survived by one sister, Madolyn Pate of Mesquite, TX. She is also survived by 2 sons, Russell (Cherri) Childers of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and Richard (Lisa) Childers of Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Four Grandchildren – Lauren Childers of Dallas, Texas; Zachary Childers of Bryan, Texas; Rachel Childers of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and Brandie Childers of White House, Tennessee.

Three Great-grandchildren – Kaleb Montamayor of Dallas, Texas; Sydney Owens of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and Riker Childers of Bryan, Texas.

Gwen was a 1943 graduate of Mesquite High School. Her first job was a carhop at the Pig Stand. She went on to become a wife, mother, homemaker, seamstress, and did childcare for many family members and friends.

She is loved by so many and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

A visitation for Gwendolyn will be held Monday, May 8, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Anderson Clayton Gonzalez Funeral Home Chapel, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A committal service will occur Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Laurel Oaks Cemetery, 12649 Lake June Road, Mesquite, Texas 75180.
