He was born January 17, 1930 in Dallas, Texas, to James Harvey Hale from Tennessee and Emma Serena Stewart from Kansas City, Kansas. His family and close friends nicknamed him Buddy. He graduated from Cozier Tech High School in 1947. In school and in the business world, he answered to Valter. He served in the Army in Delansainhausen, Germany from 1956-1958. He started as a paper boy at 13 and was employed by the Dallas Morning News for 43 years when he retired as City Circulation Manager.
In 1960, he married Wanda Jean Price. She has two sons, Richard and Dennis Price. Wanda died in a tragic house fire in November of 1987, after 23 years of marriage. It was 1988 when he met Ginny at a chili supper at the Oak Cliff Assembly of God Church. They married two years later on December 30, 1990 and enjoyed 31 years of marriage. He was very active as an usher, served in the men's ministry, set up golf events, doing church reconstruction improvements with Bobby Adkins and hosting Keepers of the Promise Men's Adult Sunday School Class with Travis Wallace. He was head usher of the traditional service for 12 years until stepping down for health issues in 2016. Valter was an avid golfer, enjoyed deer hunts with his son, Dennis, as well as fishing trips. We would spend the day with Richard in January when he came to show his horses at the World Champion Appaloosa and Painted Horse Show in Ft. Worth. He enjoyed planning vacations to the Grand Canyon, California, Utah, Nevada, Missouri, Arkansas, and Florida as well as trips to England and Canada.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wanda Jean, all his brothers, sisters--Georgia Dorriety and Emma Lou Sagnibene. He is survived by his wife, Ginny Hale, his sister, Ruth Daily, his sons, Dennis Price, Richard Price, and Michael DeMoen and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is remembered as a delightful, attentive and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was an exceptional listener and conversationalist. Three words summarize him: He was patient, kind, and wonderful. He was a best friend to each of us. "God's blessing for Buddy was that He gave him a long, full life. God's blessing to each of us was that He brought Buddy into our lives."
