Jean Henderson Fowler

Jean Henderson Fowler was born in Crandall, Texas, on July 5, 1918, and died in Dallas, Texas, on September 18, 2019. A member of Lakewood United Methodist Church since 1948, Jean was always an active church member, fully involved in the church’s missions. She loved her church and her Sunday School Class, the Wesley-Beacon class. As a proud graduate of SMU, Jean taught in DISD for over 40 years, most of those years spent as a second grade teacher at Dan D. Rogers Elementary School in Dallas. On her 100th birthday in 2018 her former students organized a special birthday party at C.C. Young. Even on her 101th birthday many of her former students sent birthday wishes and visited her. Jean is survived by her cousins Sue Adams of Forney, Texas, and daughters Jerra, Mary, and Cathy and son Thomas; Sherill and Bob Stewart of Round Rock, Texas and son, Clark; Carolyn Robb of West Lin, Oregon; Elizabeth Thompson of Carrollton, Texas; and T.A. and Susan Miller, Kemp, Texas. Of course, her other family is Lakewood UMC, especially her Sunday School friends. Jean will be missed but will remain an inspiration for everyone who knew her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church, 2443 Abrams Road, Dallas, Texas 75214 or to a charity of your choice. The family is appreciative of the wonderful care given to her by the CC Young staff over the last 7 and one-half years. Burial will be in Crandall Cemetery after a memorial service at Lakewood United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 21 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 1:45 pm prior to the service.
