Born on December 15, 1929, in Dallas, TX, John was one of ten children born to Dorothy Eve Bentley and John Walter Anderson Sr. Growing up in a full household he learned early on the value of hard work and a sense of humor – traits that defined him for the rest of his life.
A patriot at heart, John served in the United States Army in the artillery branch during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of CPL and was awarded the UN Svc Medal, Army Occ medal (Japan), Korean Svc Medal w/1 Bronze Svc Star. His time in the service shaped his character, instilling a discipline and a “can-do” spirit that he carried into his civilian life at the Conoco Service Station he owned and operated as an automobile mechanic and a race car builder.
While he was proud of his service, his greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Anderson of 72 years; a partnership built on the kind of steadfast love that served as a blueprint for his family. He is also survived by his children Lynette
Williams (Alan) and Pam Sisson (Mike) and his grandchildren Matthew Williams (Michelle), Amy Williams, Sean Sisson (Dianna) and Jaime Sisson (Omar). As a father, grandad and a GG daddy to four great grandchildren (Noah, Emma, Jorah and Everly), he was a steady hand and source of endless stories and love.
He is also survived by his younger brother Leroy Anderson, as John joins his parents and other siblings in eternal rest.
There will be a private memorial service with Full Military Honors for his family to honor his life and service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of John Walter Anderson, Jr. to the
VA Hospice Program.
