Mom was a nurse and then a mother. Having worked in labor and delivery many years, she delivered and baptized many a baby before moving on to critical care nursing.
Her care and devotion for her patients lasted her entire career. Above all, Mom’s most important priority was to listen to the patient.
This woman raised five kids by herself. It was exhausting for sure, but somehow, she never missed out on a thing. She made sure to give all that she could.
Mom grew up in her beloved Idaho mountains and was a country girl through and through. When she wasn’t fishing on her homemade raft and pole, she would sneak up to the mountains and play her harmonica to whomever would listen, usually bunnies and deer.
We will always be amazed at the delicate balance she used in raising us. She was always available, loving, and supportive, but she could also be strict if that’s what we needed. She never stopped teaching us, as that was her heart.
We can’t hold back in being proud of how talented she was. From sewing, to cooking, to painting, to scuba diving, to quilting, all while constantly caring for her patients and children, there wasn’t anything she couldn’t do. But beyond all her skills and kindness, let it be known that she was a hawk when it came to cards! Mom has been aptly labeled as “pinochle hustler extraordinaire,” as she always executed her best bluff and wit at the table.
Oh, she will be sorely missed, but will remain in our hearts and memories forever.
