The faithful, feisty spirit we all knew and loved - Joyce Loretta Kyles (née Jones), 87, of Mesquite, TX, passed from this earthly life and into the embrace of her heavenly Father on Friday, June 12, 2026. Joyce was born in Athens, TX, April 11, 1939, to Thomas Foster and Ruby Lavara (Roscoe) Jones. As a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, her presence will be deeply missed.
Her infectious enthusiasm lit up many rooms during her lifetime. Her confidence came not from outshining others, but in drawing attention to the lights of those around her. All who were privileged to be in her sphere of influence could count on her unapologetic honesty – whether it was asked for or not, Amen? She treasured her church family at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Balch Springs, TX where she enjoyed filling in at the piano when needed.
She neither professed nor did she strive for perfection. She lived a life of honesty, integrity, and generosity. She drew strength from seeking the Lord in all aspects of life. Her son, Ken, put it so succinctly: Her steadfast faith in God and the promise of His Peace that she knew would come at the end was rewarded as she gave her final breath.
Joyce is survived by her son Kenneth Long of Kaufman, sister Sue Bricker, son-in-law Ernie Williams, stepdaughters Crystal, Angela, and Cynthia, stepsons Wesley and Greg. She adored and was adored by her 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren! She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Odie D. Kyles, her beautiful daughter Barbara Williams, four sisters: Sally Bailey, Melba Blair, Gracie Tucker, and Minnie Ryer, three brothers: Buddy Jones, JT Jones, and Johnny Jones, and several nieces and nephews.
