Judy McKelvy Broom
July 26, 1943 – April 27, 2019
Judy was born to the late John and Pauline McKelvy, July 26, 1943, in Atlanta, Texas. Judy graduated from Pasadena (Texas) High School in 1961 and received a double BA in English and Journalism from East Texas State University in 1965. (As East Texas State is now Texas A&M-Commerce, she considered herself an honorary Aggie. Whoop!)
Judy was particularly proud of working as a technical editor for NASA during all of the Apollo missions. She went on to become proposal coordinator for Rockwell-Collins and E-Systems. She was still working fulltime as a technical editor and writer for L3 ComCept when she passed.
Judy is survived by daughter, Shonda Kay Purvis (Michael James Tillman); son, Beau Wade Broom (Karen Lynn Miller); grandson, Logan Wade Broom; grandson, Cash Andrew Miller; granddaughter, Blake Lynn Broom; and grandson, Keilan Lane Broom.
In her spare time, Judy loved doting on her grandchildren, loved going to movies and musicals (Rent and Hamilton were particular favorites), enjoyed texting her daughter in Scotland, watched her favorite television programs (pretty sure she is disappointed to not see how The Big Bang Theory ends), and read voraciously (novels, cookbooks, history, pretty much everything).
Judy is also preceded in death by sister, Cynthia Ann Chapman.
A private “Celebration of Life” will be held May 18, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to help with the education of Judy's grandson, Logan. It had been her joy to be his guardian for the last several years. To make a donation, please write to email@example.com in order to receive information.
