June Goodson, of Mesquite, TX passed away in the early morning of February 18, 2015 at the Heritage Place Nursing Home. She was 82 years of age, born May 5, 1932 in Kirkwood, MO, daughter of Clifford and Catherine Carter both having predeceased her. It was in 1954 she moved to Mesquite, Texas and for several years, worked for Braniff Airlines. June married James Leonard Goodson of Mesquite, Texas on November 10, 1956. James predeceased June on December 11, 1987. They had no children.
Still heartbroken over the death of her husband, June was urged by friends a couple years after his death to take her first trip overseas to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia which she did. That sparked the beginning of her many travels to Europe, Asia, South America, and Canada. She went to Alaska to see the grizzly bears up close, went up the Amazon River of South America to see the pink dolphins and trek through the jungles, and she climbed alone up Cough Patrick in Ireland as just some of her ventures. Two most memorable trips were to Russia in 1992 with 960 pilgrims and two chartered planes on a 23 day World Pilgrimage, and in 1994 to China, another 23 day World Pilgrimage. Both included several other countries and both were professionally filmed by a camera crew who went on those trips. June thrived on taking trips. Her excitement in traveling about showed immensely on her face so lit up with enthusiasm.
June leaves only one sibling, Pat Carter, of Kirkwood, MO, and three very special friends who had cared for June in her failing health for several years. They are Gary and Pat Richardson and Margaret Fox - neighbors of June. Another close friend, Cheryl Kellett, lives in Vermont and had gone on several trips with June.
A wake will be held at Gonzalez Funeral Home & Crematory in Mesquite, TX on February 19, 2015 from 6pm – 8pm.
